Festive Christmas Rice Krispie Treats

Ingredients
  

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows (about 6 cups)
  • 1 tbsp half and half (or milk)
  • 6 cups crisped rice cereal
  • 1.5 cups Christmas-themed M&M candies
  • 3 tbsp Christmas colored sprinkles
  • 1 tbsp red and green sprinkle sugar

Equipment

  • large non-stick pot or Dutch oven
  • wooden spoon or rubber spatula
  • 8x8 or 9x9 inch baking dish
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp knife

Method
 

  1. Place a large non-stick pot or Dutch oven over low heat. Add 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter and melt completely.
  2. Add 10 ounces (about 6 cups) of mini marshmallows. Stir continuously until melted and smooth.
  3. Remove pot from heat. Stir in 1 tablespoon of half and half until fully combined.
  4. Quickly add 6 cups of crisped rice cereal, 1.5 cups of M&Ms, and 3 tablespoons of sprinkles. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Line an 8x8 or 9x9 pan with parchment. Transfer mixture and gently press into an even layer.
  6. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon red and green sprinkle sugar. Let cool at room temperature for at least 1 hour.
  7. Lift treats from pan using parchment and cut into 12 squares with a greased knife.

Notes
